Dr. Paul Cantonwine's bio
Dr. Cantonwine has 20+ years of cradle-to-grave experience in nuclear fuels. He started his career in nuclear power at the Bettis Atomic Power Laboratory in 1999 after completing his Ph.D. in Materials Science and Engineering at the University of Virginia. While at Bettis, he worked on fuel performance issues focusing on understanding failure both in-reactor and during dry storage. In 2006, he joined Global Nuclear Fuels, which supplies nuclear fuel for boiling water reactors. While at GNF, he held various technical and leadership positions and was responsible for implementing and licensing a new BWR fuel channel material called NSF, which has eliminated observations of channel distortion in BWRs. Under his leadership, the fuel performance and design group at GNF was responsible for developing the GNF2.02 product line and inserting the first ATF lead test assembly at Hatch. He is now a Distinguished Research Staff member in the Used Fuel and Nuclear Materials Group, focusing on fuel performance under transportation conditions.
Dr. Cantonwine is the author or co-author of over 35 journal or conference papers. In 2013, the American Nuclear Society published his book, "The Never-Ending Challenge of Engineering: Admiral H.G. Rickover in His Own Words.” He has six patents and 3 Top Innovation Practice awards from the Nuclear Energy Institute.
